This Is Getting Ridiculous

Seriously. At first, my jokes about 2008 being "the year of Matt" were said in fun. After seeing this Hulk trailer...I believe 2008 truly was tailor-made for me. I know it's only a trailer, but they have drastically improved on the look of the Hulk since the previous stinker of a movie. Even the tone seems more in line with the comic.

Watch the new Hulk trailer here.

I just saw the trailer this morning and... well... uh... not so impressed. First, it's another Hulk origin story. Don't we have enough of those already? It's a pretty safe assumption that everyone knows who the f the Incredible Hulk is and if they don't then they can catch up on their own time. Second, it's like Norton saw the first Hulk movie and made a bet with his friends that he could make a better one, which really any tard off the street could accomplish. The most recent one was horrible. But it's the plot line that bugs me. I understand Banner's struggle with the demon inside of him and how's it a reflection of modern society blah blah blah but seriously, he spends the better part of the trailer trying to get rid of this beast and at the end when a new monster that can't be stopped with modern ballistic missiles comes along he embraces his indestructible alter-ego as the only chance to save humanity. It makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I think about it. That plot has been played to death. Why can't we just have the happy-go-lucky Banner of the TV show that gets pissed off, smashes shit, then moves on to another small town to destroy?

And is it just me or does the new Hulk look just like the old Hulk?

Nah...you see, you've got to have faith. That way, your childhood dreams can be crushed anew with each failed movie attempt.

I dig a good origin story...IF it's faithful to the original mythology. It's not clear to me that this movie WILL be an origin story, but I do like the serious tone. I think Ed Norton brings a certain credibility that the wooden Eric Bana didn't have.

I also think the Hulk looks a little better. Especially in the face. More like the comic. Still, he's not convincing on the screen the way that Spider Man or Iron Man have been...or even Batman, now that I think about it.

PLUS...you've got The Abomination...one of the coolest Hulk villains ever in a downtown brawl.

I was pretty excited to see Tim Roth in the preview.

The Abomination is a cool villain but the CGI model in the movie looks like an angry glob of horse feces... You would think that he could easily be defeated by a hose and a little bleach.

Not being a big comic guy, I did not recognize the villain at first. Initially, I thought it was Hulk and said to myself..."Oh, dear, the effects are even shittier than in the first one." Glad I was wrong.

I think the origin story is probably essential as they are, no doubt, wanting to launch a franchise with this (as I'm sure Ang Lee's film wanted to), so I'm afraid we're stuck with the origin story. Plus, to appeal to a broad base of people, you have to put the origin in, IMHO.

I will be there, more than likely. The Ang Lee one was pretty much utter shit, but my daughter likes the Hulk effects so at least we have that.
